Shannon Express Concert
Provides Candy for BDHRA
(Bedford and District Handicapped Riders Association)
Saturday Night 15th October at Holmemeade Middle School was a lively affair when Shannon Express filled the hall with the sound of music. They demonstrated admirably why they are a competition winning chorale keeping our audience of around 150 captivated.
With the help of a raffle and the bar we made a profit of around £1,000 to be shared between the Bedford and District Handicapped Riders Association, Willington (BDHRA) and Biggleswade Sandy Lions Charities. This enabled us to provide BDHRA with sufficient funds to buy a 12 year old pony called Candy.
BDHRA is an independent charity, run wholly by 30 volunteers at a purpose built centre in Willington, giving riding therapy to the physically and mentally disabled. During term times on Wednesdays it takes 40 or so children plus a few adult riders, plus a small group on Thursday evenings. The Association is entirely self funding and all money donated goes directly to the upkeep of the riding centre and for the benefit of the riders.
On the 7th December we accepted the BDHRA’s invitation to join them at their Children’s Christmas Party .
We presented them with our cheque for £500 and met Candy, their new pony (3rd from left).
