Planning for Wicksteed starts around mid January when local organisations and professionals who help and support families and young people needing that little extra support in their lives are contacted by us. We ask them to talk to their clients and ask them if they would like a day out to relax, have fun and leave their cares behind for that day! Gradually, numbers come together and usually we take 60 - 70 people. A 53 seater coach picks up at Biggleswade and Sandy and usually arrives at Wicksteed about 10.30/11am as does a mini bus of young carers. Both parties are welcomed by the early bird Lions standing in the car park, waving like mad and handing out sweeties whilst fastening on wristbands for free rides on the amusements.
Everyone races off to cram as many rides as possible into the remainder of the morning before meeting back at the coach area for a packed lunch. Then it's back to the fun of rides and ice creams and perhaps for some, a welcomed cuppa. Home time comes all too soon about 4pm, when the coaches are refilled with happy, sleepy children and adults who look relaxed and give us a smile as they say, 'What a great day, thanks. we've all enjoyed ourselves.'
This year’s trip is planned for Saturday 16th June.
